What you need before you start
Open PRENK in a phone or computer browser. You need a microphone if you want to clone your voice, a phone number you control, and a friend who has agreed to take part in an AI call. A ready-made voice lets you skip recording entirely.
Agreement can cover the game without giving away the exact story. A friend can know you are trying an AI comedy call while still being surprised that you have apparently hired a personal trainer for your houseplants. Pick a time when they can enjoy the conversation.
- A quiet place for your voice sample.
- A 30–60 second sample if you want your own voice.
- Access to the phone you will verify.
- One simple idea and a short reveal.
1. Give the AI a story it can actually play
Choose one of PRENK’s story cards or write your own brief. A good brief gives the AI a premise, a question to ask, and a way to react. A long script that anticipates every possible answer usually makes the conversation harder to follow.
Try this story
I’ve become a houseplant DJ. Ask my friend whether a fern would prefer jazz or techno. Take their answer seriously, suggest one ridiculous stage name, then reveal the joke.
That brief gives the recipient something easy to answer. If they suggest classical music, the AI has room to follow the idea. The joke does not depend on making them panic, agree to a purchase, or disclose anything private.
Keep the first attempt short. The free minute is a useful constraint: one setup, one question, one follow-up, and a reveal. You can give a later call a more elaborate story once you have heard how your friend responds.
2. Choose your voice and delivery
Use “My own voice” to record a sample and create a clone. Link your phone when prompted; creating a personal voice requires a linked account. Speak as you would on a relaxed phone call. If you are just trying the flow, choose a ready-made voice instead. Your story can be funny without sounding exactly like you.
Natural is PRENK’s default delivery. It is a good place to start when the premise is already absurd. Deadpan can suit an earnest announcement; overexcited can suit a character who is far too enthusiastic about a minor achievement.
Listen to the preview before moving on. Check that the voice is recognizable, the words are clear, and the delivery suits the story. A clone is an approximation: a better sample can help, but every sentence will not sound identical to your own speech.
3. Connect your phone and outgoing caller ID
If your phone is not already linked, enter the text code to connect it. That phone number is your PRENK account, so you do not need a ChatGPT login or a new password. Outgoing caller ID has a separate verification call before PRENK can display your number on a call.
Complete the verification on your own phone, then return to PRENK. The app checks caller ID status automatically. Phone sign-in and caller ID verification are different tasks, even though both use the same number.
Why caller ID needs a separate check
Choose the recipient from the available contact options or enter their number. Browser contact access varies by device, so importing a contact card or typing the number may be the simplest option. Check the country code and the recipient before starting.
4. Make the call, then talk about it
Review the story, voice, recipient, and available time. Start when the person is expecting to take part and you have a stable connection. Give the recipient time to answer naturally; conversation works better when it is not rushed.
An attended call lets you listen in or take over with the recipient’s permission. If you record, the recipient decides at the end whether the recording can be saved and replayed. Sharing a clip is a separate decision to agree on with everyone in it.
After the reveal, ask what they noticed: the opening, the rhythm, the way the AI followed their answer, or a sentence that did not sound like you. Those observations are more useful than treating a recognizable voice as proof that the person was fooled.
If the first attempt does not land
- The story feels stiff: replace a speech with a question the person can answer.
- The clone sounds distant: record a clearer sample with a steady microphone position.
- The delivery feels theatrical: return to Natural and simplify the brief.
- The call does not connect: check the number and call status before retrying; the person may be unavailable.
- The person wants to stop: end the call and choose a different time or activity.
You do not need a complicated setup for a good first call. A small, specific idea gives the AI something to work with and gives your friend room to make the joke their own.
